All right. Let’s dive right into it. Let me first go through through some of the main features that you get with this feeder.
Stainless Steel
The SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is made of ABS plastic. Blah. But for those of you who worry about cat allergies and chin acne, this little feeder takes care of that concern very well. You can order a stainless steel bowl. And, by the way, the unit comes with a single-portion bowl to be used for dry food, and a split-portion bowl to be used for wet and dry food. Pretty nifty.
The bowl itself has a capacity of about 2.25 cups, which should be more than plenty for most house cats.
Wet Food!
Here’s a big feature: it works for wet food. There simply aren’t that many options if you switched your cat over to healthier wet food. This feeder can and does accommodate wet food.
Microchip
There is “microchip” in the name of the feeder. Why? Because it’s one of those RFID numbers. It’s not complicated at all. The feeder’s flap covering the food (the company calls it the access hood) will only draw open when the cat wearing the collar tag approaches. If you other cat or cats try to feed on the food, they won’t be able because the feeder won’t open. Simple and brilliant as that. And the feeder also has “intruder mode,” which closes the lid if an unregistered pet comes nearby. (Keep in mind that the feeder comes with only one RFID collar tag. You’ll have buy additional tags.)
Excellent Warranty
It has superb 3-year warranty. You’ll find that the marketplace has lots of 1-year warranties. Sureflap really stands behind its product. I totally respect that.
Dimensions
The feeder is small and slim, so we’re talking small-to-medium-sized cats. The SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder’s dimensions 12.62″ x 9″ x 7.88″. The feeder is powered by 4 C batteries somewhere between 6 months and a year.
Standout Features
I could say that the aforementioned features are ridiculously good. But, wait, there’s more. Let’s get to the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder’s standout features.
If you’re even remotely interested in the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder, you probably have more than one cat. So this little feeder retains up to 32 RFID tag details per feeder. So unless you’ve got a cat farm somewhere in the Midwest, you’re covered for all your pets.
The bowl has some flexibility, which is great. So what I mean is that the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder comes right out of the box with a single portion and a split portion bowl (for dry and wet food). The company clearly knows and listens to its customer. Love this. The company also includes a feeding station mat to keep the mess to a minimum.
And the lid is closed all the time. It only opens when the cat with the right tag approaches. And not only that, the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder will work with all standard pet microchips. So you don’t necessarily have to use the RFID tag (though I recommend it to avoid any hassles and technical assist calls).
Who Should Buy the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder
Clearly, this little feeder has a ton going for it and some fantastic technology behind it.This easy-to-use cat feeder solves a ton of problems.
But here are some things you should keep in mind as it’s not perfect. In fact, it lacks some things that I think SurePet can solve in the future but as at this point makes this pet feeder less than ideal.
For one, it has no timer. You can’t set it and forget in quite the same way that the vast majority of feeders on the market can. You’re basically trusting your cat not to gorge himself. So if you’re cat has the habit of overfeeding, think seriously about whether this feeder will work in your situation.
Secondly, portion control with this feeder is very tough. Yes, you will fill the bowls with as much food as you think your cat should eat for the two meals. But, again, your trusting your cat not to overdo it. If your cat is really good about eating just enough or maybe grazing throughout the day, the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder will be excellent.
But make sure it works for the type of cat you own. I can’t emphasize this enough. This feeder is not designed for a cat that is undisciplined in its feeding habits. (Trust me, I know all about this!) It might make sense for you to review the product manual. You can review it here.
It doesn’t have an AC adapter. So it’s straight batteries for this bad boy. (It takes 4 C batteries.) This one of my pet peeves (pun intended), but it may not be for you. Just know that you won’t be able to plug this in . . . ever.
And, finally, it’s small. Although it’s made of ABS plastic and is plenty tough, I wouldn’t recommend you stepping on it. Notice what I’m saying here: It’s more about you or your family than the cat. Your cats won’t break the thing, but maybe you or your kids might. It’s small profile maybe just what you’re looking for but on the other hand, if you’re a bit of klutz, buy something bigger so it’ll withstand the pounding it’ll take for you. 😊
The Bottom Line
The SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is terrific. It covers so many bases, it crazy. But it had better be the right fit otherwise, you likely won’t
be happy. Great if you have multiple cats and one of them likes to steal food. And especially perfect if your cat prefers to eat multiple meals throughout the day rather at set times. It’s really how cats should eat, and the SureFlap SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is darn near perfect in those cases.

Seventy-four percent of the reviews are 5 stars and another 13% are four-star ratings. That’s very good. I don’t think you have anything to worry about based on the reviews on Amazon.
