All right. Let’s go. The Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder has a bunch of good features. Here’s the rundown:

Portion Control
You’re going to have substantial control over portions. The machine can dish out meals as small as two teaspoons, which to me is perfect. I’ve reviewed a bunch of other feeders where the portions start at one teaspoon (about 5 grams) but that’s almost two small an increment. I much prefer two teaspoons of kibble to start. Annoyingly, the company doesn’t say what the maximum per meal but I’d say the bowl can accommodate a couple of cups, max.

3 Meals
You can program up to three meals a day. That’s one fewer than most feeders in this range.

Good Capacity
The hopper can hold 6.5 cups. That puts it right at the middle range in terms of capacity. I like the size, not a gigantor but not little bitty thing, either. That means you don’t have to fill this thing everyday. Keep in mind that the Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder will not accommodate wet food. This is strictly for dry food.

Larger Kibbles
It’s a bigger unit so it can handle kibbles or  pellets that measure as much as ½ inch in diameter. That’s really good. So many feeders have trouble with this issue. (I should mention that Cat Mate says the dispenser works best with pellets or kibble with a minimum of ¼ inch in diameter up to a maximum of 6/8 of an inch.)

I like that it has a manual override button. I’m always surprised when feeders come on the market without one. Uggg.

I mentioned that Cat Mate has given you the ability to customize the unit. That’s a huge plus. So what can you actually customize? Well, for one, you can manually feed your cat, as I mentioned. In other words, if for whatever reason you need to feed your cat right now, you can just press a button and get the feeder to dish out a meal.

There’s a actually an extra feed setting, which will allow you to manually add an extra meal to the programmed three for the day. This super helpful.  There’s also an advance feed function. Again, if you want to fast forward and call the next scheduled meal right now. Done. Keep in mind that the Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder will only allow you to do this once per day.

It also has frequent feed functionality that you can tap. Basically, this setting will allow you to schedule multiple feeding times in a day, with smaller food portions each time. The company recommends this mode setting for cats with special dietary needs. If you choose this mode, you’ll need to identify the number of times the food will be released and the amounts. I’ll be honest, it’s a little complicated.

And, finally, the control panel is easily accessible and overall, it’s straightforward to use and program. I looked over the manual and you might have to consult but, as I say, outside of the more advanced modes, it’s pretty intuitive. It’s just pressing buttons to set the timer and such.

Who Should Buy the Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet

This is a straight ahead, no muss, no fuss machine. But it’s not a pared down feeder. There is going to be a bit of a learning curve, if you’re going to use some of the more advanced settings.

Having said that, I’m prone to say that just about any cat owner would do well by the Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder. But no one machine is ever a perfect for everyone.

So here are few things to keep in mind. For one, this unit doesn’t have an AC adapter. It’s strictly battery operated. I never like that. But it may not be an issue of you. You’ll need 4 C batteries that last you better than six months.

The big one, though, is wet food. The Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder is optimized for dry food. Sorry. I know and it’s frustrating. One other thing about this. If you feed your cat food that has small pellets or kibbles, the machine is likely not going to like it. You’ll want to keep the kibbles at ¼ of an inch or bigger.

And, finally, if you’re one of those folks who wants to take the unit right out of the box, plop it down on the floor and program it, this may not be the best option for your. The Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder doesn’t come assembled. Some assembly (though it’s not hard) will be required. Keep this in mind.

The Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder is very good feeder that gives you a ton of flexibility. But do I wish I could program more than three meals a day. Yes. But even then, Cat Mate has made it possible for me to do that but not quite in the way I would have preferred.

All in all, I believe that you really can’t go wrong with the Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder. Just make sure to review the points I’ve made above, especially if your cat eats the small kibbles.
